Which deductible costs you the least?
For each deductible, we add up the premiums for the year and what you pay yourself towards the medical costs you enter. The premiums come from the FOPH. This is a calculation, not advice.
Deductible and co-payment in brief
01What is the deductible?
The deductible (“franchise”) is the amount up to which you pay your medical costs yourself each year. Above it, your insurer reimburses the costs, minus the co-payment. It ranges from 300.- to 2’500.- from age 19, and from 0.- to 600.- up to age 18. The higher it is, the lower the premium.
02What is the co-payment (Selbstbehalt / quote-part)?
Once you have paid the deductible, you still pay 10% of the costs above it, up to 700.- a year (350.- up to age 18). It is added to the deductible: the two are separate amounts.
03How is the total cost of each deductible calculated?
For each deductible, we add up:
- the monthly premium of the offer × 12;
- the deductible, or your costs if they are lower;
- 10% of the costs above the deductible, up to 700.- (350.- up to age 18).
The medical costs you enter are an estimate, so the result applies to that amount.
04When can you change your deductible?
To lower your deductible, tell your insurer before 30 November 2026. To raise it, you have until the end of December (check the exact date with your insurer).
